Outdoor sculpture walk begins

Oak Park’s first annual summer outdoor sculpture walk is set to begin Sat., June 2 and continue through mid-October. Art will be on display at 12 locations on Lake Street and Forest Avenue. The walk will begin at the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St., head west along Lake to Forest, then north toward Chicago. The sculpture walk was organized by the Public Art Advisory Commission, citizen volunteers who promote the acquisition and placement of public art that reflects diversity and artistic expression, and enhances the esthetic environment of the Village. Sewer grant program opens to all income levels

Beginning Fri., June 1, a program to provide financial assistance to property owners who install systems to protect their homes from sewer backup during a heavy rain event will accept applications from anyone who meets the program guidelines, regardless of income. Work eligible for funding through the Sewer Backup Protection Grant Program includes installing an overhead sewer system or a backflow prevention system. Eligible homeowners may qualify for a grant of 50 percent of the total cost of sewer backup prevention improvements, up to a maximum of $3,500. A Day in Our Village festival is Sunday

The 39th annual A Day in Our Village festival celebrating diversity and community involvement is scheduled for Sun., June 3. Activity booths representing Oak Park civic, cultural, social service, educational, religious and business organizations will fill Scoville Park (Lake Street at Oak Park Avenue) from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. along with live performances and a food court featuring local restaurants. Rehm Pool & Park (Garfield Street at East Avenue) also will offer many activities from 1 – 6 p.m. An Oak Park Township mini-bus will provide free transportation between venues. Fire hydrant testing underway

The Oak Park Fire Department will test fire hydrants through June 7. Any cloudiness in the water should clear up if the tap is allowed to run for a few minutes.
