Tuesday is Flag Day. Here's some of the rules regarding Old Glory.

The National Flag Foundation is hoping you'll honor the United States flag today, Flag Day, by displaying Old Glory and honoring it in some way.

They're enlisting Scout troops, Veterans of Foreign Wars chapters and others to keep up the flag's heritage and traditions.

To treat the U.S. flag properly, flag etiquette maintains that flags must be mended when necessary and, when too old and worn, disposed of by burning in a dignified manner. It also has some no-nos:

  • Never dip the flag to any person or thing.
  • Don't use it as a drapery or decoration; use bunting instead.
  • Don't use it for advertising.
  • Don't use it on costumes or athletic uniforms.
  • Don't write anything on it.
  • Don't use it to hold or carry anything.
