VIDEO: OPRF Student Shoots Video at Obama Election Rally

Leah MacCarthy, 17, a senior at Oak Park and River Forest High School had the good fortune to attend Obama's re-election rally at McCormick Place in Chicago.

The buzz in the room was there all night long.

As the electoral count needed to elect Barack Obama to a second term slowly ticked up, the energy of the crowd grew with it. Finally, at about 10:15 p.m., as CNN reported that Ohio had gone for Obama—the room erupted.

"It was a surreal moment," said Leah MacCarthy, a 17-year-old senior at Oak Park and River Forest High School. "The energy was so great, and we were making friends with the other supporters that were around us."

Leah's mom, Julie, got tickets for the election night rally at McCormick Place by spending time on the road in swing states volunteering for the Obama campaign the weekend before the rally. She picked her daughter to go with her to watch the results with other supporters on election night.

"Most of the people that were [at McCormick Place] were volunteers, so when Obama won, it really felt like all the hard work was worth it," Leah said.

An amateur photographer, Leah brought her camera with to the rally and decided to shoot some video. Afterwards, she put a film video together, which you can watch on YouTube above.
