Parents don't have to coax their children to take summer school classes in River Forest District 90 thanks to a curriculum that combines learning and fun.
Elementary level students are exploring science, nature and art in the Hands-On Gardening class, which includes tending a real garden at Willard Elementary School that was planted by the PTO. Others are learning rocket science and re-engineering air powered and water powered rockets.
At Roosevelt Middle School, geometry is being taught through Origami, iPads are being used to create animations focusing on storytelling and developing sequential drawing skills, and an Ar-Kid-Tects class is drawing detailed buildings and creating 3-D models.

The variety of classes offered by the district involve music, reading, social studies, drama and other disciplines. "Everything in summer school has a basis in education, done in an interesting way," noted District 90 Summer School Principal Peg Rudy. Classes continue in District 90 through July 19.
