Community Herb Garden to be Planted at Keystone & Augusta Triangle

The River Forest Park District and the River Forest Parks Foundation are partnering in developing a community herb garden at the corner of Keystone and Augusta.

The River Forest Park District and the River Forest Parks Foundation are partnering in developing a community herb garden at the corner of Keystone and Augusta.  The garden will be open to River Forest residents to use for the preparation for their family meals.

The herb garden will be in a 30’ diameter area with a brick sidewalk circling the garden.  The plans include the installation of a new park bench, signage, new landscaping along the railroad tracks, and the installation of an ADA compliant garden for individuals with accessibility needs.  River Forest Parks Foundation President Sue Crothers noted the value of this project to the community, “This community garden will bring families and neighbors together!  Not just for healthy fresh foraging, but it will also be an opportunity to reconnect with each other and introduce children to fresh locally grown herbs. It doesn't get any more local than this!”

The hardscape work is expected to begin around April 1st and the herb are expected to be planted in mid-May.
