Both Students in OPRF Bullying Incident Were Punished, School Says

Last week, an Oak Park and River Forest High School student was arrested for aggravated battery after he pushed another student over a railing as a response to bullying. The student who fell sustained minor leg and rib injuries. 

Since the report, we've seen a few comments and questions about the consequences for the student who was bullying. 

OPRF spokesperson Karin Sullivan said both students received consequences, but could not disclose any specifics. According to the school's Code of Conduct, battery and bullying could result in a 10-day suspension for a first offense.

After the incident, OPRF Principal Nathaniel Rouse sent an email to staff to disclose what he could about the incident, Sullivan said.

He told the Wednesday Journal that following the incident, he has heard from faculty and staff who want to see more dialogue about bullying at the school. "We need to do more," he told the paper
