D90 Monitoring Weather to Decide on School Day Monday

If school is open but parents decide to keep their child home because of the weather, the absence will be considered excused, the district says.

The following is a message from River Forest District 90 to parents:

Dear District 90 Families,

The National Weather Service’s forecast for Monday calls for frigid conditions, with temperatures expected to be well below zero. As such, we will monitor the weather forecast and the conditions in our buildings throughout the weekend. Please be assured that we will notify you via automated phone message, e-mail, the district’s website and local media in the event we need to close the schools or alter the start or dismissal times to ensure student and staff safety. We encourage you to monitor one or more of these communication resources for possible notification about school closure, if that proves necessary.

While we always make decisions about school closures with the best interest of our students, staff  and families in mind, we also understand that parents/guardians must care for their child’s particular needs, and respect their decision to keep them home if they feel that the weather condition warrants an absence. Please be assured that student absences under these circumstances are considered “excused.”

Thank you for your continued commitment to education and support of our schools.
