District 97 Board Appoints Amy Felton to Vacant Seat

Oak Park attorney will take over vacant board seat until April 2013.

An Oak Park mother of twin boys, attorney and civic luminary has been appointed to seat on the board vacated by Jennifer Reddy.

Amy Felton was unanimously selected by board members at Tuesday's school board meeting. Her term begins immediately and will expire in April 2013.

“Though there were a number of exemplary candidates who applied for the position, Amy’s experience, leadership in the community and vision for the district set her apart,” board president Peter Barber said in a statement. “We believe she will be a wonderful addition to our team, and look forward to working with her on the important issues that will shape the future of our schools.”

Since 2005, Felton has owned her law practice in Oak Park at 110 South Euclid Ave., where she works part-time. No stranger to civic duty, she's been on the board of directors at for seven years and served as co-president of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at .

Felton told TribLocal a spot on the District 97 board “seemed like the next logical progression for me in community service."

She lives in Oak Park with her husband Thad, and the couple have a pair of twin boys who attend .

A total of 14 people applied for the opening on the board, district officials said, a group that included people with backgrounds in "art, law, science, world languages, technology, government, social service, and education, and associations with a variety of community and civic organizations."

Reddy resigned her post late last month after announcing that her family will be moving to New York, where her husband will become a group leader at the Brookhaven National Laboratory.
