Author Chris Crutcher to keynote Dominican conference on young people’s reading

Dominican University’s Butler Children’s Literature Center will present “The Truth About Choice,” a day-long conference investigating the impact of the choices adults—parents, teachers, librarians, book reviewers and others—make on the array of reading material available to children and teens. The conference will be held on Saturday, February 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Parmer Hall on Dominican’s Main Campus, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest, Illinois.

The conference is designed for teachers, librarians, parents and graduate students with an interest in children’s and young adult literature and intellectual freedom for youth. Award-winning author and freedom to read advocate Chris Crutcher’s keynote address, “Every Child Her Choice: When Real Life Fiction Meets the Censor,” will kick off a jam-packed lineup. Speakers and topics include:

-GSLIS Assistant Professor Janice Del Negro on “Pick a Peck of Pages: Bunches of Young Adult Books You Need to Know.”
