Dominican University GSLIS McCusker Lecture

Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) will host Clifford A. Lynch, Executive Director of the Coalition for Networked Information, at its 15th annual McCusker Memorial Lecture on Wednesday, October 26. The lecture, “Names and Lives in the Cultural Record” will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the Martin Recital Hall, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest, followed by a reception from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Lynch will discuss how widespread content creation and sharing on the internet has driven demands for new approaches to the management of names and name authority in the digital age. He will also speak to how genealogists and historians have traditionally been concerned with the nature of names included in public records.

“It is common to have multiple names for the same individual in this age of digitization. To avoid confusion, there needs to be one location to go for name information,” said Ed Valauskas, lecturer in the GSLIS.
