Dominican University presents African heritage lecture



Dominican University will present Dr. Barnor Hesse, an associate professor at Northwestern University in a lecture titled "Re-Writing Freedom: Thomas Jefferson, David Walker and the Racial 'Double-Entendre' of the Two Liberties." The lecture will be held on Thursday, December 2 at 2:30 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. in Parmer Hall room 108, 7900 W. Division Street, River Forest.

Hesse has served as associate professor of African American studies, political science and sociology at Northwestern University since 2004. He is co-author of Beneath the Surface– Racial Harassment; editor of Un/settled Multiculturalisms; and author of the forthcoming book Creolizing the Political: A Genealogy of the African Diaspora. He has also written various articles on critical race theory, post-colonialism, the African Diaspora and Black political thought. Hesse was included in a BBC TV program titled The History of Racism.

Originally from Liverpool, UK, Hesse received his doctorate in government from the University of Essex. He previously taught at the University of East London, University of London and University of California, Berkeley.
