Dr. Mary presents ‘An Apple a Day’

Mary Maryland, PhD, RN, presents a talk titled, “An Apple a Day,” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Oak Park Arms retirement community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. Dr. Mary, as she’s affectionately called, will present information on the importance of good nutrition. The public is invited to this free program.

For seniors, the benefits of healthy eating include increased mental acuteness, resistance to illness and disease, higher energy levels, a more robust immune system, faster recuperation times, and better management of chronic health problems. As a person ages, eating well can be the key to a positive outlook and staying emotionally balanced.

Eating well is also a feast for the five senses. Wholesome meals provide more energy and help a person look better, resulting in a self-esteem boost. It’s all connected - when the body feels good, the person feels happier inside and out.

In addition, a person should accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate physical activity on most, and preferably all, days of the week.

At the talk’s conclusion, Dr. Mary will answer questions from the audience.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community which provides independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The class is free and open to the public. For more information contact Jill Wagner at 708-386-4040.
