The Out of Work Job Search

Dominican University’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) will present “The Out-of-Work Job Search,” a free workshop focused on the challenges faced by unemployed, experienced workers in today’s job market, on Thursday, April 26, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dominican’s Priory Campus, 7200 West Division Street, River Forest.

The workshop will be presented by business psychologist Dr. Stephen Laser, a hiring consultant with more than 30 years of experience in evaluating job applicants and author of Out-of-Work and Over-40.

Laser will offer insights into the unique challenges faced by more experienced workers in a tough labor market, including practical, proven job-search strategies, how to present yourself in the most favorable light to a prospective employer, and how to diminish the impact of weaknesses.

“When people find themselves out of work, it’s normal to feel victimized,” said Dr. Laser. “But playing the role of the victim is counterproductive to getting back to work. Instead, job-seekers need to focus on the future to succeed in a tough and competitive environment.”
