Petitions for District 209 Election Available

Four terms - including one for Emanuel "Chris" Welch who's running for state rep next month - will expire next April.

Forest Park residents interested in running for a seat on the Proviso High School District 209 school board in April can pick up information packets and nominating petitions at the administrative center in Forest Park.

The district office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at 8601 W. Roosevelt Rd., Forest Park, the fifth floor of the district's Math and Science Academy.

Petitions can be filed from Dec. 17 to Dec. 24 in the administration office.

All terms are four years. The election will be April 9, 2013.

Four terms will expire: Brian Cross, Daniel Adams, Kevin McDermott and Emanuel “Chris” Welch.

Welch is running this November to replace Karen Yarbrough as representative for the 7th District. He has no opposition.

Yarbrough is seeking the post of Cook County Recorder of Deeds, which is being vacated by Eugene Moore.

To be eligible, a school board member must be, on the date of the April 9 election, a citizen of the United States, a registered voter, at least 18 years old, a resident of the State of Illinois and the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Elections are non-partisan and board candidates are not required to indicate a political party affiliation.

For more information, prospective candidates can access the website of the Illinois Association of School Boards or the State Board of Elections.

Efforts to reach Welch on his plans for the District 209 post were unsuccessful.
