River Forest District 90 Approves Roosevelt Middle School Renovation Plan

Major changes at the school include a plaza at the school entrance, providing walkways to the library, 20 parking spaces for staff and a vehicle turnaround area, District 90 announces.

The River Forest District 90 Board of Education Monday approved a $1.2 million plan to renovate the exterior campus of Roosevelt Middle School, according to a news release from District 90.

The board made their decision after about two years of planning with input from faculty, staff, students, parents and other community stakeholders, according to the release.

District 90 Board President Patrick Meyer said in a statement, "We are grateful to the volunteer planning committee for helping us find solutions to the many identified needs of the school, while being respectful of our neighbors."

He added that the plan is cost-effective, with a focus on sustainability.

The renovation plan will improve safety needs at the school, stormwater management, navigation for visitors, lighting, signage, play spaces, bike parking and classroom temperatures, according to the release.

The board approved a plan that will create a plaza at the school entrance, providing direct walkways to the River Forest Public Library and around the north side of the gym to Jackson Avenue, according to the release. The north parking lot will include 20 parking spaces designated for staff during school hours, and a vehicle turnaround area that will also accommodate deliveries.

District 90 Superintendent Ed Condon said in a statement, "We are pleased that the project will improve many aspects of the school site for students, staff and residents, as well as provide much-needed solutions for some long-standing issues that required attention."

District 90 plans to being work on the site during the summer. For more information, go to www.district90.org
