There's Still Time to Run for Local Elections

School, parks, library and township contests on ballot in April in addition to village board.

The Oak Park-River Forest area may have just gone through an election.

But now it's time to gear up for the local ones in the spring.

In addition to village board, there will be other contests on the ballot April 9, and residents interested in serving on any boards still have time to collect signatures before the filing deadline.

Packets containing petitions and other election information are available at the respective administrative offices or on the State Board of Elections website.

Filing dates are from Dec. 17 to Dec. 24.

Slates have already announced for Oak Park and River Forest municipal races, to be held on the same day.

Here are other contests on the ballot.

Schools

Oak Park Elementary District 97

The administrative office at District 97 will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 970 Madison St. The terms of Jim Gates and Amy Felton expire, as does the term for Peter Barber, who will be running for Oak Park trustee. Oak Park and River Forest High School

Packets are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the superintendent's office, 201 N. Scoville Ave. Four terms will expire: Terry Finnegan, Amy Leafe McCormack, Valerie Fisher and Dietra Millard. Call 708-383-0700 for more information.

River Forest District 90

For residents of River Forest, the administrative office of District 90 will be open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at 7776 Lake St. Four terms will expire: Patrick Meyer, David Latham, Roman Ebert, JuliAnn Geldner. Call 708-771-8282 for more information.

Park District

Oak Park

Packets for the Park District of Oak Park board are available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the park district office, 218 Madison St. Two four-year terms will expire: Marty Bracco, who told the Wednesday Journal he plans not to run for another term; and Christine Graves. River Forest

Packets for the River Forest park board are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays in the district office, 401 N. Thatcher Ave. Two six-year terms will expire: Tom Cargie and Molly Hague; one, four-year term, that of Beth Clarkson, will expire. Call 708-366-6660 for more information.

Library Board

Oak Park

Information about becoming a candidate for the library board is available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the administrative offices at the main library, 834 Lake St. Four terms are expiring: Mila Tellez, Bruce Samuels, Matthew Fruth and Gary Johnson. For more information, call 708-383-8200.

River Forest

Packets for River Forest Library Board trustees are available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the administration building, 735 Lathrop Ave. Two terms are expiring: Alice Calabrese-Berry and Genie Halloran. For more information, call 708-366-5205.

Township

All elected offices for Oak Park and for River Forest Townships are up for election. For more information, call or visit their offices: 708-383-8005, 105 S. Oak Park Avenue for Oak Park; 708-366-2029, 8020 W. Madison St., River Forest.

To be eligible for all positions, candidates must be, on the date of the April 9 election, a citizen of the United States, a registered voter, at least 18 years old, a resident of the State of Illinois and the community for at least one year immediately preceding the election.

Elections are non-partisan and board candidates are not required to indicate a political party affiliation.
