Celebrate Earth Day in Thatcher Woods

The Thatcher Woods Savanna aRestoration Project will mark Earth Day 2012 with a variety of family-friendly programs in Thatcher Woods on Sunday,April 22.  All activities begin at the Thatcher Woods pavilion (follow the winding road north off Chicago Ave., just west of Thatcher in River Forest).

Activities include a Woodland Bird Watch at 7:30 a.m. with Jill Anderson, year-round Thatcher birder and spring clean-up in designated areas at 9:30 a.m.  Gloves and bags provided.

Take a Wild Flower and History Walk at 11 a.m. with Victor Guarino, Thatcher Woods steward and Frank Lipo, Executive Director of the Historical Society of Oak Park & River Forest.  A tour of the Silver Creek Prairie ecological restoration site follows at noon with Victor Guarino and Cook County Forest Preserve District ecologist Kristin Pink.
