Oak Park's Emery Lehman Qualifies for Olympics

The high school senior finished second in the 5,000-meter speed skating race this weekend at the U.S. trials in Utah.

Emery Lehman, a high school senior from Oak Park, has earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic speed skating team, finishing second in the 5,000-meter race at the trials this weekend in Utah, according to the Associated Press.

Lehman's father and grandfather were there to cheer him on, he told the AP. But he had to call his mom back home to deliver the news because she can't take watching him race.

"My mom can't handle it," Lehman, 17, told the AP. "She came out here for the Salt Lake World Cup and watched every race but mine."
