Brown Cow Ice Cream Eating Contest is Monday

7 pounds. 21 scoops. 1 winner. There's still time to register for this popular summer event in Forest Park.

Any day of the week, you can walk into The Brown Cow ice cream parlor in Forest Park and eat a trough of ice cream.

But once a year, that activity becomes a competition. The Brown Cow's trough eating contest is this Monday, July 15, and there's still time to sign up to compete.

"It gets intense," Brown Cow employee Dominique Peel said. "Some people train all year for this event."

It's $45 to enter the contest, and you can do so in teams of three. The winner gets all of the money back, as well as bragging rights in the form of a plaque in the parlor.

The trough, to be specific, is 7 pounds of ice cream, or 21 scoops of the many flavors Brown Cow offers. The first team to finish all of the ice cream wins.

"If you drop some on the ground, you still have to eat that to win," Peel said. "One year we had two teams finish at the same time, but one team still had some ice cream on the table that they didn't eat. And if you puke, you're disqualified."

But be ready for a brain freeze—Peel said the record is 5:09.

Children 14 and older may enter with parental consent. The event is at 7 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Forest Park National Bank. Brown Cow is accepting registration until 2 p.m. Monday while spots are available.

For more information or to register, go to The Brown Cow at 7347 W. Madison St. in Forest Park.
