Huskies Win State Baseball Title

Mike Brennan's walk-off single puts Huskies on top. Here's a look at the community's reactions.

The Huskies are state champs.

defeated Lyons Township 4-3 to take the Class 4A title. Twice this season, the Huskies lost to Lyons Township. 

But the past didn't matter during Saturday's game, which sounds like it was a nailbiter. The Oak Leaves reports:

With the game tied at 3-3, Jack Picchiotti led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple. Lyons Township coach George Ushela then elected to walk the next two Huskies hitters. That put Brennan in the spotlight. Brennan had struck out three previous times at-bat. He didn’t waste any time, however, as he swung at the first pitch, sending it to right field for the game-winner.

Saturday's victory marked OPRF's return to glory on the diamond. The school's last state baseball championship was won by the legendary 1981 OPRF squad. Wednesday Journal caught up with the members of that team for a 2006 feature story.
