Get Your Cookie Fix in Downtown Oak Park This Weekend

A roundup of weekend happenings in Oak Park and River Forest

More than 40 Oak Park businesses will be part of a widespread cookie craze on Saturday at Downtown Oak Park's annual Winterfest + Cookie Walk from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For $20, participants will get a souvenir cookie tin and a map of participating shops and restaurants for their quest to collect 50 gourmet, locally made and individually wrapped cookies.

After a record-breaking turnout last year, Downtown Oak Park has increased the number of available cookie tins from 500 to 650, anticipating the best Winterfest to date, said Max Williams, executive director of Downtown Oak Park.

The event is one of several that brings foot traffic from all over to downtown Oak Park, Williams said.

"Merchants benefit from the increase in foot traffic and the exposure to new customers, many of whom travel from the City and far western suburbs to participate," Williams said. "...These events contribute to the vitality our business district and add to the unique character of the OPRF community.”

The Cookie Walk starts at a hospitality tent on Marion Street, where Fannie May will provide free hot chocolate and Caribou Coffee will provide free coffee.
