City of Homes aims to put Berwyn on the National Register
The fundraiser also will honor Senator Martin Sandoval (11th District), who passed a resolution honoring the Berwyn Bungalow and proclaiming the first week in May as Bungalow Appreciation Week in Illinois. Tickets to the event are $50 and can be purchased online.
The “Heart of Berwyn Neighborhood,” located between Harlem and Ridgeland Avenues and Cermak Road and the Depot District, has been recommended for historic designation by the City of Berwyn’s Comprehensive Plan. If nominated, the district will be the one of the largest bungalow districts on the National Register, and will help to create awareness of our City’s neighborhoods’ and historic importance, coalesce pride of place under a brand that is attractive to current and potential home and business owners, and promote the importance of preserving and protecting the historic homes in the community.
The CITY OF HOMES ORGANIZATION, INC. is an Illinois not-for-profit corporation that is dedicated to promoting the preservation, redevelopment, adaptive reuse and continued viability of Berwyn’s historic housing stock and in making Berwyn the primary destination in the Chicago area for families and individuals seeking an affordable, walkable, location-efficient and transit-orientated community.
