Local Berwyn Community Agencies and Area Veterans Join Together To Bring “The Moving Wall” to Berwyn

Local Berwyn Community Agencies and Area Veterans join together to bring “The Moving Wall” to the Berwyn Park District’s Proksa Park in Berwyn, Illinois from August 7 through August 11, 2014.

The Moving Wall is the half-size replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It was conceived of and built by Vietnam Veterans, John Devitt, Gerry Haver and Norris Shears as a remembrance and healing tool for all those people who may never have a chance to visit the Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Moving Wall has been touring the country since 1984. 2014 commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Moving Wall and 2015 will commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War ending. It presents a great opportunity to pay tribute and experience this solemn event, and to remember and honor those men and women who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

This event will be free and open to all who wish to visit. Access to the Moving Wall will be available on a 24-hour basis at Proksa Park – 3001 Wisconsin Avenue, Berwyn, IL. 60402.

Bringing the Moving Wall to our community is a vast undertaking. The Berwyn Park District is reaching out to the community for help in making the Moving Wall experience a success. Businesses and individuals willing to donate funds, time and talents are needed.

Anyone interested in offering support towards the Moving Wall experience is invited to contact Reba Wachal via email at rwachal@berwynparks.org  or by phone 708.788.1701 or Hillary Fulara at hfulara@berwynparks.org or by phone 708.795.2892. We can also be contacted by mail at: Berwyn Park District, 3701 S. Scoville Ave, Berwyn, IL 60402.
