Revamped Restaurant Is An Oasis of Southern Mexico in Berwyn

With his newly expanded La Lupita Restaurant, restaurateur Sal Figueroa renewed his endeavor with his mother and restaurant namesake, Lupita, to serve a variety of Mexican dishes in a warm and welcoming setting. Diners can embrace a menu of flavorful, homemade dishes crafted with Lupita’s old world talents within their newly reconditioned space at 6539 West Cermak Road. In partnership with the City of Berwyn and Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC), La Lupita Restaurant held a grand re-opening celebration on May 22.

The restaurant expanded its dining room from a small 3-table space into a full dining room with capacity for 70 patrons. The new dining room has been thoughtfully arranged with traditional décor and colorful ambiance. The restaurant also has several televisions for those interested in watching the latest soccer match.

Since 2004, La Lupita Restaurant has kept its promise of serving “The Best Home Made Mexican Food” in a casual, comfortable setting. According to BDC Board President Jon Fey, “The excellent food is a perfect match to the tasteful dining room expansion.” The restaurant makes tortillas and salsa fresh daily. On the weekends, their loyal customer base travels from around Chicagoland for their pozoles, a pork stew served in handmade artisan bowls called cazeulas. Other favorites include Guerrero-style huaraches that add a sumptuous layer of beans between two sandal-shaped masa cakes, which are topped with your choice of meats or can be made vegetarian, and el barrigon, a super-sized huarache topped with steak, pork, chicken, chorizo, cheese and salsa verde.

La Lupita often serves a special of the day for guests who dine-in as well as a secret menu with notable items such as goat tacos. The restaurant is vegetarian-friendly, offering soy meat and a variety of vegetable options. They carry natural juices of all types, including carrot, orange, pineapple and more. Guests can also treat themselves to authentic Café de la Olla, a sweet cinnamon scented coffee served in a jarrito. Owner Sal Figueroa stated, “We have a great group of customers that are like family to us and we look forward to seeing our family grow.” Mayor Robert J. Lovero followed, “I’ve been coming to La Lupita for many years and I’m happy to see this wonderful business expand on our Cermak Road.” La Lupita Restaurant offers a wide menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also offers carry-out, catering and in-house banquet services. The business is open every day from 9:00 am – 10:00 pm.
