River Forest Student Dies in Accident on Way Home From College

John Malone Jr., 20, was ejected from a car after it blew a tire on the highway in Indiana. He coming back from Indiana University with four other men, three of whom were injured.

A 20-year-old River Forest man on his way home from college died in a car accident Saturday after the SUV he was in blew a tire and rolled over, according to an Indiana State Police news release. John J. Malone Jr., 20, was sitting in the back of the car but was not wearing a seat belt, police said. He was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Three of the four men riding with Malone were also injured in the accident, which occurred near Remington, IN. They were on their way home from Indiana University.  At about 1:50 p.m., a Ford Explorer driven by Deerfield resident Mario Guagliardo, 20, blew a tire and lost control in the northbound lane of Interstate 65. THURSDAY, APRIL 25 Janett A. Pardo, 21, of the 1700 block of W. Fiddyment Dr. in Romeoville was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and with damaging village property.   Miguel Huerta, 24, of the 2700 block of N. McVicker in Chicago, was charged with driving with a revoked license in Oak Park.  WEDNESDAY, ARPIL 24 Marko A. Markovic, 31, of the 400 block of S. Maple in Oak Park, was charged with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop at 5 a.m. in the 400 block of N. Oak Park Avenue. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24 $1.9K in Purses Stolen At about 8 p.m. police received a call from the DSW Shoes on Lake St. that a man and woman had stolen 8 Michael Kors purses valued at $1,900. They were last seen getting into a black Ford Explorer. Police are investigating the theft and they believe the couple is part of a region-wide retail theft ring targeting Cook County and surrounding areas. THURSDAY, APRIL 25  Illegal Pain Pills Scott Andrew Rockey, 25, of the 5100 block of N. Amadas in Kittyhawk, NC, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was found asleep behind the wheel of a rental truck. OAK PARK Someone stole $1,570 in various gift cards from a desk drawer at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in the 500 block of S. East Avenue. Man Attempts to Abduct Teen Girl in Oak Park

Police reported that a 70- to 75-year-old man yelled "get in my car" to the 14-year-old girl.

A man attempted abducting a 14-year-old girl in Oak Park last week but drove away when she said no, police reported Wednesday. The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. April 26 in the 800 block of Division. Police said the man honked at the Oak Park girl and waved to her, then passed a second time and yelled, "get into my car." He drove southbound on Oak Park Avenue after the girl said no.  Police described the man as white, bald, between 70 and 75 with a wrinkled complexion and a "sloped" nose. Gift Cards Stolen From Church: Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, April 23.

TUESDAY, APRIL 23 Four teens attacked a Chicago juvenile in the 0-100 block of Lake Street and stole his phone, valued at $230.  Someone stole $1,570 in various gift cards from a desk drawer at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in the 500 block of S. East Avenue. The theft occurred sometime between April 16 and April 23.  Someone broke into a car after entering an unlocked garage in the 700 block of S. Taylor. Once inside, the offender stole a Garmin GPS unit, Feni sunglasses, 20 CDs, a baseball bat, a phone charger and two auxiliary cords. The estimated loss was $938.  A second garage was burglarized in the same block. Someone entered an unlocked door and then broke a car window, then stole a Garmin GPS unit and car radio system. Forest Park Man Charged in Sexual Assault, Robbery

A community alert posted on a Chicago alderman's Facebook page helped police identify a suspect in two attacks, according to local media reports.

Police are crediting a community alert posted on a Chicago alderman's Facebook page in helping them to identify a 41-year-old Forest Park man as the suspect in two attacks on females on the northwest side of Chicago on April 13, according to a Chicago police news release.  Antonio Lamont Nettles, 41, of the 7500 block of Harvard Street in Forest Park, faces the following charges: two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count each of kidnapping—force or threat, attempted kidnapping and aggravated robbery.  The attacks occurred between 9:45 and 10:30 a.m. on April 13 near Belmont and Oak Park in Chicago, according to WGN TV. Nettles is accused of sexually assaulting one of the women and robbing the other.  Police said in the…

There are warrants out for the arrest of a number of accused criminals in and around Forest Park and Oak Park. Patch highlights a few of them.

J. F. Juarez, 40, is wanted on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Bail was set at $10,000. His last known address was in the 1100 block South Taylor Street in Oak Park. The warrant was issued April 9, 2010. Derek Kelly, 45, is wanted on a retail theft charge. Bail was not set. His last known address was in the 0-99 block of West Harvard in Oak Park. The warrant was issued June 9, 2003. Anthony Lawrence, 30, is wanted on a suspended, revoked driver’s license charge. Bail was set at $50,000. Oak Park Man Charged with Weekend Stabbing in Iowa City

The man was arrested in Macomb, Illinois after Iowa City Police received tips about his possible location there.

By Stephen Schmidt, Iowa City Patch editor An Oak Park man was charged in connection with a stabbing in downtown Iowa City over the weekend, according to Iowa City Patch. Gabriel E. Badding, 18, was taken into custody in Macomb by Western Illinois University Police on an arrest warrant issued by the Iowa City Police at abou 4:30 p.m. Sunday.  A Gabriel Badding is listed as being a student at the University of Iowa in the student directory, with a home address in Oak Park. At 1:57 a.m. on Sunday officers located two men who had been stabbed in an altercation near the intersection of Dubuque and Washington Streets. The two stabbing victims were taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. Police say one victim …

SATURDAY, APRIL 20 Elias Baptiste, 43, of the 1200 block of N. Linden Ave. was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol at about 10:30 p.m. after he was involved in a car crash. Baptiste was released on bond. FRIDAY, APRIL 19 Sometime between April 11 and April 19, an unknown person broke into a storage locker at the 300 block of Euclid and stole several power tools estimated in value of $550. An unknown person broke into a garage on the 1000 block of S. Taylor St. and used a small pry tool to break the window of the car parked inside. The stole a pair of earrings from inside the car.
