Learning To Run: Dealing With A Motivation Problem

Our summer intern talks about training for the Race for the Cure 5K.

I want so bad to be a “good” runner. Right now, I’m training for my first 5K; specifically, the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure in Chicago in September. The race has a special meaning for me. My mom, who’s just 46, is going through chemotherapy for breast cancer. She has such a positive outlook and is always upbeat. I thought the least that I could do, other than be a supportive daughter, would be to help raise awareness, even if it’s just in a small way. I’m having the most trouble with motivation, which really perplexes me. I know my major problem is just making excuses: I’m too tired, I’m too busy, I’m too whatever. Then I get mad at myself for all of the above, because I have no room to complain. I have my health and the ability to …

Welcoming a New Face to Oak Park

I'm really tired of moving. My name is Aly Brumback and I'm the intern for Chicago Patch. I'll be reporting over the summer for Oak Park-River Forest Patch. You might see me around town taking pictures, video or talking to members of the community. Come say "Hi" if you notice me. I'd love to hear what stories you want to see about your town. So, why do I hate moving? I moved up to Chicago at the beginning of this month, and my newest residence marks the fourth place I've lived in a year. Needless to say, I plan to stay here awhile. HOW CAN I LIST A LOST CAT FROM OAK PARK?He's been missing since june21st (wednesday) from the parking lot at 50 west chicago avenue. 3 years old,grey short hair (smallish) wearing blue collar with jingle bell. his tags were lost,but will answer to "smokey". miss him very much!!! i am disabled with cardiomyapothy and this is making me physically ill. please help me to bring my little guy home:(   more ›
