This is Scooby - He Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Cats get Saturday, dogs get Sunday. Scooby's an -year-old Australian Shepherd transfered from Sangamon County Animal Control. He is a happy, older dog in his golden years that would love a home with a family where he can live out his life as a pampered, spoiled pooch. He's housebroken and adores the company of other dogs. Because Scooby is much happier in his foster home, he can be viewed at the Animal Care League by appointment. Call 708-848-8155 to schedule a visit. You can meet Scooby's pals at the ACL's office, 1011 Garfield St. For hours, call 708-848-8155. About this column: Each weekend, we pick a pet that needs a home. If you're …

This is Mesa - She Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Cats get Saturday, dogs get Sunday. Mesa is a beautiful Torti that was transferred from another shelter. This sweet girl is extremely affectionate and loving. Mesa is very curious and loves to be near people. This beauty is one that will always be at your side. As much as Mesa loves people, she does not share the same love for other felines. This sweet gal will have to be your "One and Only" kitty. She is also recommended for older, respectful children. Ask to visit with Mesa since she is not on the adoption room floor. She is housed in the Feline Office where she is able to roam free without having to be around other kitties. Mesa is a …

This is Ava - She Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Cats get Saturday, dogs get Sunday. This is Ava, a 2-year-old pit bull mix. She's an active gal that appeared at the ACL as a stray, so we don't know anything about her background. What we see, though, is a very high energy dog that wants a family willing to teach her some manners and help her burn off that energy. An active home with resilient kids over 5 years old would be best. She'd also benefit from an experienced dog owner who can address her jumping and lack of manners. A few obedience classes and some active play is sure to make Ava a good companion. You can meet Ava and all her friends at the ACL's office, 1011 Garfield St. For …

This is Toby - He Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Cats get Saturday, dogs get Sunday. This is Toby, a 5-year-old domestic short hair. This 5-year old handsome orange and white tabby will melt away any frost or snow in your heart. Toby is quite the charmer and has an all-around amazing personality. When you walk into his adoption suite, he is ready to say a big orange and white “Hello.” With Toby, it's love at first sight. This sweet boy was transferred to ACL from another shelter. Toby never gets bored sitting on any comfy lap and would make the ideal lap cat. Whether you’re sitting at a desk typing or just sitting in any chair, you can bet Toby will be right there. He also enjoys being…

This is Fluff—He Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Hi, my name is Fluff. I'm a 3-year-old  beagle/terrier mix. I'm an affectionate and mannerly guy who came to Oak Park with 41 other dogs rescued from rural Oklahoma. My foster family thinks I'm very well-behaved and a great house dog. I'm excited to see everyone who comes to the door and greet everyone with a happy wag of the tail. I do have a habit of jumping up on people, which is just my way of showing affection, but my foster family is trying to teach me to sit politely instead. I'm still getting used to big city noises (trucks and cars), but I love taking walks now and would love a family who would take me on long strolls. Because I…

This is Bailey - She Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. This is Bailey, a 10-year-old Siamese. Bailey is a beautiful Siamese mix cat that was originally adopted from Animal Care League as a kitten but returned when her person moved out of the state. She has very striking blue eyes and a short coat with excellent seal point markings, but the stockier, cobby body type that is usually associated with Persian or Himalayan cats. She would do well as an only pet, but is comfortable in a quiet home with other respectful cats & a dog. She will need to find a home with adults or children over the age of 10. You can meet Bailey and all her pals at the ACL's office, 1011 Garfield St. For hours, call 708…

This is Bella - She Needs a Home

Want to provide a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League. Cats get Saturday, dogs get Sunday. This is Bella. She's a 6-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix. She was returned to ACL when her family found they didn't have enough time to care for her properly. We've found her to be a mellow, relaxed senior gal who loves attention from our volunteers, walks in the neighborhood, and other dogs with a similar attitude to hers. However, she does act aggressively around some men because she is afraid of them. Her new family would need to be committed to modifying this behavior. You can meet Bella and all her friends at the ACL's office, 1011 Garfield St. For hours, call 708-848-8155.

This is Macy - She Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League in Oak Park. Cats get Saturdays, dogs are on Sundays. This is Macy, a 3-year-old German Shepherd. She's an affectionate dog that came to the shelter as a stray. She appears to have had little experience in life during her years in the world. Everything seems new to her, and she's nervous at first, but is not skittish. Macy's foster mom reports that Macy has made great strides in her potty training, no accidents in the last two weeks! However, crate training is a must for Macy in her new home until she gets the lay of the land. Macy will need an understanding adopter who will take her to an obedience class or two. With time and a committed…

This is Princess - She Needs a Home

Want to give a pet a loving home? Here's how.

Each weekend, Patch will present a cat and a dog available for adoption through the Animal Care League in Oak Park. Cats get Saturdays, dogs are on Sundays. This is Princess, a 3-year-old domestic short hair. This beautiful calico was transferred to ACL from another shelter. When she arrived, she was terrified. It took her quite some time to trust and feel comfortable. Patience and perseverance certainly paid off. Though Princess is shy, she has a very gentle and sweet demeanor. It will take some time for her to adjust to her new home and when she does, you will see how she is quite the love bug. Once Princess feels comfortable, she enjoys long petting sessions to include belly rubs. Princess will require a quiet home with respectful …
