Gun Attacks: Juvenile Robbed, Woman Threatened

Oak Park police reports, April 20-22.

TUESDAY, APRIL 22 An Oak Park woman walking in the 200 block of W. Lake Street was attacked shortly after 10 p.m. A man came from behind, showed a black handgun and hit her in the face while trying to take her purse.  The attacker is described as a black male in his 20s, 6 feet tall with a medium build and curly hair. He was wearing a red letterman jacket with tan sleeves and blue jeans.  There were two other men with the attacker. Both were described as black men in their 20s, one wearing a red fitted baseball hat, a red sweatshirt and blue jeans.  They fled westbound in the parking lot. Jiffy Lube Robbed at Gunpoint in Oak Park

It's one of several gun-related incidents in Oak Park over the last week. The offender took $120 cash and fled.

The Jiffy Lube at 6845 North Ave. in Oak Park was robbed at gunpoint at about 8:25 a.m. March 28. Police said a man entered the business, displayed a black semi-automatic handgun in his waistband and demanded money.  The victim complied and gave the offender $120 cash. He then fled on foot northbound into Chicago, police said. 2 Armed Robberies Follow Fake iPhone Craigslist Sales

In the last week, two people looking to buy or sell iPhones on Craigslist have been robbed at gunpoint in Oak Park.

Two armed robberies have occurred in Oak Park in the last week as a result of arrangements made over Craigslist to purchase iPhones.  Det. Sgt. Michael Richardson of the Oak Park Police Department said it's possible the two incidents are related, but they're still under investigation.  On March 26, a man who tried to buy 23 iPhones on Craigslist was robbed at gunpoint by the supposed seller. The victim advertised on Craigslist that he purchases cell phones and arranged a meeting with someone who said he would sell the 23 phones. He met the victim at 9:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of N. Taylor, and the man displayed a handgun and demanded money.  The offender is described as a black man, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds and wearing a black skull cap, …

Riverside Teen Charged With Armed Robbery in Oak Park

Oak Park police reports, March 25.

MONDAY, MARCH 25 A woman walking south on Oak Park Avenue at 6 p.m. was pushed from behind by a man who tried to steal her iPhone. The offender was unable to and then fled northbound on Oak Park Avenue. He's described as a man in his 20s, about 5-foot-9 with a thin build and wearing a dark hoodie, dark jeans and dark gym shoes.  A 16-year-old Riverside juvenile displayed a handgun to a woman in the 900 block of S. Austin at 1:50 p.m. and demanded her purse. The victim gave up her purse and the offender fled on foot. Police found a jacket and loaded gun in the back yard of a building in the in the 0-100 block of Garfield. The victim's purse was found in a garage in the same block. Armed Robber Thwarted When Teen Says No

Oak Park police reports, March 19.

TUESDAY, MARCH 19 A white 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan was stolen in the 1000 block of Lyman between 9 p.m. March 18 and 6:30 a.m. March 19. The estimated loss is $5,000.  A River Forest juvenile refused to give an armed robber his money, even after the robber flashed a gun, but the offender then fled. The suspect was described as a 16-year-old black male, about 5-foot-10 with a thin build and black hair, and wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and a brown hoodie.  He approached the teen in the 400 block of N. Gun Pulled at ATM, Teens Mug Man: Police Blotter

SUNDAY, MARCH 10 Three men mugged someone at 3:54 p.m. in the 1100 block of N. Ridgeland, stealing the man's wallet. The estimated loss is $155. The men were all described as black, between 17 and 19, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds. One man was wearing a black knit cap, a green sweatshirt with a yellow design on the back and blue jeans. The second man had dreadlocks and was wearing a blue or black hoodie and blue jeans. Cab Driver Threatened With Knife and Robbed

Man showed cab driver closed knife and demanded money, implied he had gun also.

River Forest police reported on Monday that a man who claimed he had a gun and showed a knife before demanding money robbed a cab driver in the early morning hours of Oct. 22. River Forest police responded to a call about a fare dispute at Madison Street and Ashland Avenue at about 3:04 a.m. on Monday. According to the cab driver, he had picked up a passenger near Lake and Ashland in Chicago and was told to drive to Oak Park. The driver was then directed to Madison and Ashland where the passenger threatened the driver with a closed knife and demanded his money. He also told the driver he had a gun if necessary. Customer Hurt in Armed Robbery at Gas Station

About $500 was taken Sept. 24 from the Thorntons at 601 N. Harlem Ave.

A customer sustained a cut and a bump on the left side of his head during an armed robbery Sept. 24 in which $500 was taken from Thorntons, 601 N. Harlem Ave., Forest Park police said. Police said a man wearing latex gloves and holding a black-colored pistol walked into the station and pointed the gun in the direction of the cashier. The man's accomplice walked into the store and yelled at a customer at the fountain drink machine to get on the ground. The gunman asked if the man at the fountain heard the orders from his accomplice and as he started to get on the ground, the accomplice, who also was wearing latex gloves and had a gun, struck the customer on the left side of the forehead, police said. Pair Arrested After Blue Line Stickup

Police say Chicago men jumped onto train tracks and ran across Eisenhower Expressway in escape attempt.

Two Chicago men who robbed a CTA Blue Line commuter of a pair of cell phones were charged with armed robbery after a foiled escape attempt, police said. The incident took place July 16 around 2:10 a.m. on a westbound CTA Blue Line, where authorities said Otire Woods and Terrell Jones approached the 23-year-old victim. Woods displayed a handgun — later determined to be a pellet gun — while Jones swiped a cell phone from the man's hand then reached his pocket and stole a second cell phone. Jones and Wood exited the train at Oak Park Avenue; the victim stayed on until Harlem Avenue then called police from a pay phone. Police: No Link Between CTA Robberies

Oak Park police say there is no connection between last week's armed robbery near the Austin Boulevard CTA Green Line stop and the spate of incidents that last year happened on CTA lines in and around the village.  “Those (robberies) took place on El platforms,” said Oak Park Police Det. Sgt. Michael Richardson. In the January 2012 incidents, authorities warned commuters after a group of men were carrying out violent attacks or displaying a handgun in an effort to rob them. The victims were approached while riding, exiting or walking home from the Green Line or waiting at a bus stop, according to media reports. The victim in the Feb. 19 attack, a 24-year-old Chicago man, was pistolwhipped in the back of the head and his iPod was stolen. …
