Man Charged With Arson: 'I'll Give You Something to Call the Police About'

Steven L. Chew, 26, of Chicago, was charged with aggravated arson by Oak Park police after setting fire to kitchen blinds following a domestic arguement.

Steven L. Chew, 26, of the 4800 block of west Fulton in Chicago, was charged with aggravated arson after turning himself into police, according to LaDon Reynolds at the Oak Park Police Department. Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Taylor around 3:17 a.m. Jan. 19 to investigate a report of a domestic fight in an apartment. The victim told police officers that Chew had come over to her home and began pounding on an apartment window. When she let him into the apartment, the two got into a verbal argument and she asked him to leave. When Chew refused, the victim told him she was going to call police. Update on Velvet Rope Arson, Location Could Get New Restaurant

A status update on what's going on in the former Velvet Rope nightclub spot.

The Chicago Tribune reports that a new restaurant could soon move into the currently vacant storefront at 728 Lake St. in Oak Park that was previously the home of the former Velvet Rope nightclub. Spiro Papageorge, owner of Papaspiros Greek Taverna, recently signed a five-year lease agreement with the building's owner. Papageorge told the Tribune that he's keeping quiet on the details for now, but said he expects to open a restaurant at the location. The storefront has been vacant since a fire shuttered the doors of the Velvet Rope in June last year. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 6:30 a.m. June 3 to the blaze. Man exposes himself to kids; arson reported in apartment building.

A group of Oak Park juveniles told police that a man exposed himself before he drove away.  According to a police report, a man driving a black, four-door newer model car approached the three juveniles, who were walking in the 600 block of West Randolph Street about 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.  The man "exposed his genitals to the juveniles, then drove away, " police reported. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Oak Park Police Department at 708-386-3800. Police in Oak Park are looking for information on what led to a hallway fire at an Oak Park apartment building. Investigators on Thursday found paper soaked with an unknown fluid burning in the hallway of the building, 12 Washington Blvd., according to police.  No injuries…
