Graphic Designer Needed for OPRF Performing Arts Group

APPLAUSE, a performing arts group at Oak Park and River Forest High School, is looking for someone with the skills to make their programs and fliers come alive.

If you have a knack for knowing what looks good on a page, then a booster group at Oak Park and River Forest High School could use your help. APPLAUSE!, the performing arts booster organization, needs a volunteer who can help create concert programs, flyers, banners and other print pieces. The ability to design for the web would be a plus. The designs created would be used as templates, so any software used should be easily accessible to other volunteers. To learn more, contact Beth Franken at bfrank1111@comcast.net.

Brooks Arts Troupe Heading to National Junior Theater Festival

This year's appearance is the fifth in as many years for BRAVO program.

BRAVO, the fine arts and performing arts program at Gwendolyn Brooks Middle School, has done it again. The troupe of 46 performers will head to the National Junior Theater Festival, being conducted over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend in Atlanta, GA. This is the fifth consecutive year that the talented group will represent Brooks and the entire state of Illinois in one of the most prestigious national competitions of its kind. The festival is sponsored by iTheatrics, a New York-based organization that takes Broadway shows and changes the keys of the songs to fit younger performers’ voices, shortens the scripts and in the case of such shows as Hairspray, makes them G-rated. The Saturday night of the festival, the cast will …

Having a Downton Abbey Watch Party? A Sampling of Fare to Serve

Fixings for a meal the Crawleys would love to eat and a dinner Mrs. Patmore would have to cook.

Get set folks—season three of one of our national obsessions is about to start Sunday. No, not American Idol—we're talking about Downton Abbey. Yes, I am a fan, and I plan to have my set turned to WTTW at 8 p.m. for the third season premiere on American television. Will Mary and Matthew will marry? What new intrigues will O'Brien and Thomas concoct? Who will win the one-on-one competition between the Dowager Countess and Cora's American mother, Mrs. Levinson? And of course - will John Bates go free? This is a huge event—and like the Super Bowl, it requires its own special food. But what does one serve during such an important festive occasion? Should it be the sumptuous fare that the Crawleys favor and Mrs. Patmore has to cook? Or, will it…

Attributed to Craig Harnden, Head Chef, British Embassy in Washington “Channel the Lord of the Abbey and make a classical beef wellington: a beef tenderloin wrapped in a truffle and foie gras mousse, encased in brioche, or if you can’t reach that far, then “go downstairs” and have toad in the hole, which is sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding batter with onion gravy”   more ›
