Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

The nominees for Athlete of the Week: Glenbrook North's Jim McPike, Niles West's Dashae Shumate, Maine West's Brittany Collins, New Trier's Sam Stoddart and Maine South's Michael Zadlo.

More than 71,000 votes were cast in last week's contest and Niles West's Ryan Miller was voted Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 23 - Jan. 29: Jim McPike, senior, wrestling, Glenbrook North – McPike took the conference championship in the 170-pound division. The senior from Glenbrook North pinned New Trier’s Luke Hidder in the second period of the conference finals to claim the championship. The win moved McPike to 19-5 on the year. Dashae Shumate, sophomore, girls basketball, Niles West – Shumate made the game-winning layup for Niles West against Maine South last week. Her two points as time expired gave the Wolves a 42-41 win. Shumate had 12 points in the victory and helped Niles West move into first …

UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

With more than 71,000 votes cast, see who took this week's honor as Athlete of the Week.

More than 71,000 votes were cast in last week's contest and Niles West's Ryan Miller was voted as the Athlete of the Week. Miller won the 100 butterfly at the Buffalo Grove Invitational, finishing in 54.63 seconds. Miller also took third in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes 6.85 seconds). The Niles West senior received 39,586 votes, or 55 percent. HONORABLE MENTION Zach Cole, senior, boys bowling, Deerfield –Cole took third place at the sectional championships with a 1332 in his six-game series. The senior led Deerfield to a third-place team finish and qualified as an individual for the state championship. With more than 300 votes cast, check out who took this week's honor as Athlete of the Week.

More than 300 votes were cast last week and Glenbrook South's Molly McDonagh claimed the title of Athlete of the Week. McDonagh had a double-double in the Titans’ 49-41 victory against Evanston, accounting for 12 points and 12 rebounds. The home victory moved Glenbrook South to 4-2 in the Central Suburban League South. The Glenbrook South basketball star received more than 190 votes or 58 percent. HONORABLE MENTION: Michelle Madalinski, senior, girls gymnastics, Maine West – At the Niles North Viking Invitational, Madalinski took first in the uneven bars with a score of 9.35. The nominees for North Shore Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 9 - Jan. 15: Michelle Madalinski, senior, girls gymnastics, Maine West – At the Niles North Viking Invitational, Madalinski took first in the uneven bars with a score of 9.35. The senior also took second in balance beam (9.4) to Hersey’s Hannah Bovino. Jake Norcia, senior, boys basketball, Highland Park – Norcia hit one of the biggest shots of his career when he nailed a half-court buzzer-beater to give the Warriors a 57-54 win at Elk Grove. More than 15,000 votes were counted last week and Deerfield's Alex Sacks was proclaimed this week's Athlete of the Week. Sacks scored a game-high 19 points in the Warriors’ 67-52 non-conference victory over Wheeling. The senior had four points in the fourth quarter to lead Deerfield in a late-game comeback.  The Deerfield basketball star received more than 7,500 votes, or about 48 percent. Honorable Mention: Mychael Henley, senior, basketball guard, Niles North – Henley scored 23 points and collected five rebounds in the Vikings’ 67-52 win over Uplift last week. With more than 1,500 votes cast, find out who won this week's Patch Athlete of the Week.

More than 1,500 votes were cast in last week's contest and Maine South's Nina Duric was proclaimed the winner.  Duric led the Hawks’ balanced scoring attack with 14 points and nine rebounds in Maine South’s 55-43 win over Champaign Centennial to claim the State Farm Holiday Classic title. This marks the first time Maine South has won the championship in school history. The Maine South basketball star received more than 700 votes, or about 47 percent. With more than 500,000 votes cast, find out who won this week's Patch Athlete of the Week.

With more than 500,000 votes counted for this week's contest, Deerfield's Lenny Bloom came out the winner.  Bloom remained undefeated on the season for wrestling with three more victories in Deerfield’s recent quad meet against Huntley, Johnsburg and Lake Zurich. The 145-pound senior is looking to get back to the state championships in his final season. While we are fully aware of the glitch in our voting system, Bloom still came out on top. Patch will be exploring a new system next week in selecting our winner due to this glitch. HONORABLE MENTION: Jack Conner, senior, wrestling, New Trier –Conner won the 152 (lb.) title in the 27-team Hinsdale Central tournament.
