Suspect in Bleeding Heart Robbery Arrested

Police say Chicago traffic stop leads to arrest of 19-year-old felon.

Update, 12:58 p.m. Trapp appeared in Maybrook court this morning. He will be held without bond, authorities said.  Police in Oak Park say the attacker in the Bleeding Heart Bakery robbery has been caught. Travion Trapp, 19, of Chicago, was arrested around 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the 400 block of North Pulaski Road, authorities said. Oak Park Police Det. Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said investigators had been watching Trapp ever since a Chicago police officer pulled him over for a minor traffic infraction on Dec. 11 and identified him as a possible match to the sketch released by police days earlier.  "That Louis Vuitton hat was distinctive," Reynolds said, referencing the composite sketch.  Police said Trapp walked into the popular downtown bakery…

Sketch of Bleeding Heart Robber Released

Attack prompts police response and public help.

Update, Thursday, 2:40 p.m. Police in Oak Park are shooting down allegations made in an Eater.com post that say the victim was badly beaten and strangled during Monday's robbery.  Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds reiterated what police and village officials originally reported, that the victim "received minor injuries as a result of physical interaction with the offender." Citing the ongoing investigation, Reynolds wouldn't specify the nature of the "physical interaction."  Police have said the victim, 22, was taken to a local hospital after the attack. UPDATED: Bleeding Heart Bakery Robbed

Employee attacked, business to close as authorities investigate Monday robbery.

Update, Wednesday, 10:15 a.m. Authorities in Oak Park have released a sketch of the man they say carried out Monday's robbery. Here's that story.  Update: Police say a man walked into the bakery around 7:15 p.m. Monday, approached the cashier and demanded cash from the store's register. The victim complied, and the man then ordered the female clerk to the store's basement, where he took money from a safe. He then locked the employee inside a "store room" before leaving. The man also made off with the employee's cell phone and car keys. In total, the man made off with more than $3,500, authorities said. The attacker is described as a black male, roughly 24 years old and about 5 foot 8 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap …
