Blue Max Coffee is looking for gently-used adult and children's clothing to help warm up the needy.
Next time you bring yourself into Blue Max Coffee for a bit of refueling, consider taking along a piece of new or gently-used clothing to keep a needy person warm. The area's popular coffee house, located at 26 Lathrop Ave. in Forest Park, is sponsoring a drive for new and gently-used articles over the next two weeks. Adult clothing, including warm coats and sweaters size large or bigger, socks and boots, will go to the Emergency Closet at Calvary Memorial Church, 931 Lake St., Oak Park. Children's clothing, including warm outerware, backpacks, winter boots, hats, scarves and gloves will go to the Kids Closet at First United Church of Oak Park, 848 Lake St., Oak Park. Coffee fanatics looking for a little extra buzz this week will be interested in checking out a coffee roasting and latte art demonstration that will be held this Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Blue Max Coffee, 26 Lathrop Ave. in Forest Park. The demonstration will run from 6-7 p.m. Attendees will learn from head roaster Gerard Dever on the art of coffee roasting while using Blue Max's in house roaster to achieve the perfectly toasted bean. Dever will take you through the step-by-step processed used at the coffee house and teach you how to watch, smell and hear the beans to achieve the perfect roast. Forest Park's favorite coffee shop extends its hours and expands offerings to include craft beer, wine and designer cocktails.
With handmade coffee drinks, friendly service and a from-scratch kitchen, Blue Max is the type of place that makes you feel cozy and lets you linger for awhile. But with later hours and the addition of cocktails to the menu, will guests ever leave? That's right. The coffee shop at 26 Lathrop Ave. in Forest Park will now stay open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with an evening food menu that borrows from the kitchen's lunch offerings.
