Crime Briefs: Car Break-Ins, Attempted Robbery, Vehicle Theft

All five incidents took place on Nov. 27 in the 1000 block of South Humphrey.

A 16-year-old from Cicero was charged with five counts of burglary Dec. 2 after a string of car break-ins in the 1000 block of South Humphrey Boulevard late last month, Oak Park Police said. After piecing together evidence and witness statements, officers took the teenager into custody in Cicero, police said. He was positively identified by two witnesses as one of two teens caught tampering with garages and trying to open car doors on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, police said. The teen was successful in only in one incident when he took CDs, cigarettes and gum from a 2007 Mazda3 parked in the garage of one home. Oak Park Crime Briefs: Armed Robbery, Suspicious Door-to-Door Salesman and a BB Gun Arrest

Man confronted, injured while walking on Austin.

ARMED ROBBERY A man sustained minor injuries May 20 after he was pistol-whipped during an armed robbery. Police said two men approached the victim while walking in the 1500 block of North Austin Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. when one of the men asked him for change. When the victim kept walking, police said, one offender struck him in the back of the head with a hard object believed to be a handgun, causing the victim to drop the cell phone. The victim told police one of the offenders displayed the handle of a revolver in the pocket of his hoodie; the other announced it was a robbery. The loss was estimated at $500. String of Car Break-Ins Reported in Oak Park

At least seven vehicles damaged in mid-week thefts.

Several Oak Park residents had a rude awakening after a cluster of burglaries to vehicles left their car windows in shambles.  According to police reports, vandals took to the 1000 block of Marion Street, Erie Street and Chicago Avenues late Wednesday, smashing car windows and ransacking the interiors for electronics. All of the incidents took place between 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9:20 a.m. Thursday, police said. Oak Park Crime Briefs: Mugging, Slicing and Tumble Onto El Tracks

Group exits van, then beats man before fleeing.

Group mugging An Oak Park man was mugged late Wednesday by a group of men who escaped in a gold van, police said. According to a police report, the 18-year-old victim was walking near Washington Boulevard and Cuyler Avenue around 9:40 p.m. when he was approached by five men "who began striking him about the face with closed fists." The group stole the victim's cell phone, then ran into a gold Pontiac van which sped away, police said. The man was taken to Rush Oak Park Hospital with minor injuries.  The phone was valued at $110.  Robbery   An Oak Park woman was victimized while walking in the 400 block of North Harvey Avenue, police said. Armed robbery reported, unruly houseguest apprehended and a woman threatened.

ARMED ROBBERY A Berwyn man was robbed last week by a knife-wielding thug, police said. According to a police report, the victim, a 57-year-old man, was walking in the 7100 block of West Roosevelt Road around 2:40 p.m. when he was approached by the attacker, who pulled out a knife and demanded the man's wallet. The victim turned over the wallet to the assailant, who then ran away toward Harlem Avenue.  AGGRAVATED ROBBERY An Oak Park man was charged with attempted robbery after threatening a woman while walking toward her home, police said. Mugging, gunpoint attack reported in Oak Park

A Stone Park man was beaten and robbed of $15 while walking along the 800 block of Lake Street, police said. The attack took place Wednesday, when the man was approached from behind by an unknown attacker who "began striking the victim in the face and chest with a closed fist," according to a police report. The attacker or attackers swiped money from the victim's wallet before running away.
