May 19 is the kick-off for the 37th season of the Oak Park Farmers' Market. It also marks the debut of new market manager Jessica Rinks. A 32-year-old part-time urban planner, Rinks, a Tennessee native, is already a loyal market shopper and a big fan of the local food and gardening movement. We asked her to introduce herself to market customers, and to the greater Oak Park community. She graciously accepted. For almost six years, I’ve been in urban planning specializing in transit. For the past four years, my interests in local food and gardening have really developed. All it will take is a signature on the bottom line and Oak Park will have its new Farmers' Market manager on board. “It’s definitely the goal,” for the contract employee, a woman from Forest Park, to assume her duties before the 7 a.m. May 19 kick-off of this year’s market, village spokesman David Powers said. Earlier: Ex-Market Manager's Parting Shots Eleven people applied and five people were interviewed, Powers said. The manager will run the day-to-day operations of the market, Powers said, and the Farmers' Market Commission, a volunteer group, coordinates and promotes the event.
