Four days, three stages, 51 bands. Saddle up your party boots.
Summertime, cold beers and American music. Now we're talkin'. FitzGerald's has announced the artists for the 32nd Annual American Music Festival, and it's a lineup jam-packed with smartly curated roots, soul, folk, country, alt-country, polka, zydeco, bluegrass and blues acts. And so much more. Did we mention the Blue Ribbon Glee Club perorming a cappella punk rock? Or Tributosaurus performing as CCR? The festival will take place on three stages over the course of four days — Friday June 29 through Sunday July 1 and then ending with big July 3 throwdown. Tickets are $30 per day, with no advanced single-day tickets sold. Early birds can save $5 by showing up within the first hour of the doors opening. Four day passes are available for $…

Legendary documentary will screen to honor the musical life of Levon Helm.
Ashes of laughter/the ghost is clear/Why do the best things always disappear? — The Band, "Ophelia" To honor the recently departed Levon Helm, FitzGerald's will screen The Last Waltz, Martin Scorsese's acclaimed documentary that follows The Band as they perform for the final time at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom in 1976. The event will take place May 3 at 8 p.m. at Fitzgerald's, 6615 Roosevelt Road in Berwyn. Helm, the raspy-throated drummer and talented musician who influenced everyone from Bob Dylan to Wilco, died April 19 after a bout with cancer. He was 71. Assuming someone over at Fitzgerald's was a fan of Helm and The Band, we placed a quick call over to find out a little more. "Oh, God yeah. Big fan," said Bill Fitzgerald. "We…

Ella Gill and Scott Daniel's performance at FitzGerald's will center on social justice.
True to form, I could hear Scott Daniel begin to fiddle quietly during the tail end of a recent phone interview. The guy just wants to play. Which makes sense. Daniel was crowned the state's fiddling champion in 2011 and he's currently a concertmaster of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Now, he's teamed up with friend and fellow Oak Park-River Forest High School songstress Ella Gill for a highly anticipated performance on Wednesday at FitzGerald's, a benefit for the Oak Park-River Forest Area Walk-In Ministry. Daniel and Gill are part of Snake Oil Salesmen, a rootsy "new folk" band based in Oak Park. (Think Avett Brothers or Mumford and Sons, with Gill's melodic vocals either taking the lead or easing into the background.) They began …
