Madison Street to Get Gussied Up For the Holidays

Holiday Walk in Forest Park will feature sleigh rides, photo-ops with Santa and local business open houses.

Madison Street will be infused with the holiday spirit Nov. 30 during the annual Holiday Walk. Loads of holiday-related events will be served at starting at 6 p.m. when Santa arrives by fire engine to light to Christmas Tree in Constitution Court at Thomas Avenue and Madison Street. You can visit with Santa and a photo taken from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Forest Park National Bank & Trust, 7348 Madison St. During the rest of the evening, folks can catch a horse-drawn carriage ride at Beloit and Madison and Marengo and Madison. They can stroll by the big tree in Constitution Court for a marshallow roast hosted by the Park District of Forest Park. Registration Still Open for Chamber Masquerade Ball

Event, coinciding with the organization's 100th anniversary, will be Oct. 26.

There's still plenty of time to sign up for the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce and Development's inaugural masquerade ball. The 100th anniversary celebration will start at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Park District headquarters, 7501 W. Harrison St. An open bar and appetizers, music and dancing will be featured during the event. If you've been scarfing up raffle tickets, this is the night winners of the large-screen television, $1,500 and $250 will be announced. You can still buy them at $10 a pop at the Chamber office, 7331 W. Roosevelt Rd., or during the night of the event. The cost for the event is $60 per person, $100 per couple. The last couple of Forest Park commissioners' meetings have been pretty quiet. Monday night might not be the case. Parked on the agenda is a request by Mayor Anthony Calderone to discuss the comprehensive plan - that's not what could become heated. The part about whether to include village-owned Altemheim property and a long-vacant building across from village hall at 512 Des Plaines could be. Initially a separate survey was to be taken on what to do with the land. Now Calderone seems to be back-pedaling on that, according to the Forest Park Review.
