Fenwick High School teacher Colby Burnett says he's still the same guy after winning Jeopardy!, plans to buy mom Oak Park condo.
Colby Burnett was all smiles upon winning his final television appearance on the Jeopardy! Teacher's Tournament on Nov. 20. The Fenwick High School AP World History Teacher and alum of the school was actually back at home. "The show shoots way ahead of time," Burnett said. "When I got back from California [where the show is shot], all my students were like, 'did you win?'" Burnett had, of course, won the Jeopardy! Teacher's Tournament and $100,000 in prize money, but he had to wait until last Tuesday to share his excitement with students, friends and family. Being an AP World History teacher has to give you a certain leg up on a show like Jeopardy! It appears it was helpful for Fenwick High School AP World History teacher Colby Burnett, who won the game on Friday, Nov. 16. Burnett, also a graduate of Fenwick, appeared on the game show as part of Jeopardy! Teacher's Edition. The two-week long competition is billed as, "the country's brightest educators," engaged in a battle of wits. According to the Chicago Tribune, Burnett won't be keeping the money he wins as a contestant on the show—he'll be giving it to his mom! Legendary a capella chorus brings show to River Forest campus.
River Forest, along with a national television audience, have now been Whiffenpoofed. The Whiffenpoofs, Yale University's legendary a cappella singers, arrived in town recently and geared up for Tuesday's performance at Concordia University. All 14 of the group's singers are staying at the River Forest home of member Daniel Turcza, where on Monday night they gathered in the basement to watch a taped performance of NBC's The Sing-Off. "It's a pretty surreal experience," said Turcza, a 2007 graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School.
