Glenbard North defeats Huskies 40-20 in season opener.
John Hoerster waited a long time to become a head coach. He’s going to have to wait at least one more week for his first victory. Glenbard North spoiled Hoerster’s debut as Oak Park and River Forest’s football coach, beating the visiting Huskies 40-20 Friday night at Weber Field in Carol Stream. Phelan, Patchak-Layman and Lee earn four-year terms.
A political newcomer and two incumbents captured seats on the Oak Park and River Forest District 200 school board. John Phelan earned his first four-year term, while Sharon Patchak-Layman and Ralph Lee were re-elected to their second terms. Incumbent John Allen, Margaret Lattner Skiver and John B. Bokum, Jr. rounded out the field of six candidates running for three seats. Phelan was attending the River Forest Public Schools District 90 board meeting — where new Supt. The upcoming April 5th elections will determine numerous issues of importance to our village.There are referendums and candidates who represent various priorities for our youth in this community. For a moment we ask you to consider this question. What kind of environment do we want our high school to be? What kind of educational environment do we want our kids to be in 40 hours a week? Currently we have a teen drug/alcohol use rate that nearly doubles the national average. This is alarming, but not fixed in stone. Oak Park-River Forest rolls by Morton 46-0.
The Oak Park-River Forest football team sure knew how to please a homecoming crowd. The Huskies gave their fans lots to celebrate by dominating Morton 46-0 in a West Suburban Conference crossover match-up on a sunny Saturday afternoon in Oak Park. Junior quarterback John Phelan ran for three touchdowns and passed for another one. "Our line was blowing people off the ball all day," said Phelan, who carried the ball 14 times for 148 yards and completed six of nine passes for 132 yards.
