Students take action for Earth Week.
Gotta love this. Lincoln Elementary School students in River Forest have all sorts of fun activities planned for Earth Week. They'll square off in a zero waste lunch challenge, walk to school and send books to the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry. Here's the schedule of events. Zero-Waste Lunch Challenge Tuesday, April 17 – Thursday, April 19; 11:30 – 12:30 1st and 2nd graders take on the 3rd and 4th graders in a contest of bragging rights to see who can reduce their lunch trash more. A baseline measurement on April 9th revealed 68 lbs. of lunch trash was generated in one day. Which grades will reduce their trash more and walk away winners? Former apprentice replaces veteran Paul Jacobson as Lincoln music teacher.
After teaching music at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School for 29 years, Paul Jacobson is passing the baton to Mike Tangorra, his one-time student teacher. Jacobson can boast that he has given the gift of music to more than a thousand children since 1981. During that time he worked with many student-teachers, but in 2007 he took Tangorra under his wing, not knowing that the young man would one day return to carry on his quest for teaching music. Tangorra comes from Prairie Oak School in Berwyn, where he taught for two years. Upon hearing of Jacobson's retirement plans, he quickly applied for the position.
