TV Pilot 'Doubt' Films at Oak Park Arms

The television drama filmed scenes last week in Oak Park. It's about a former cop turned low-rent lawyer.

From Oak Park Arms: A new telvision drama called Doubt filmed scenes last week at the Oak Park Arms.  Producer and writer David Shore, of House M.D. fame, is shooting in Chicago, but wanted to have some scenes at the Oak Park Arms.  The Oak Park Arms was selected as the location for a scene where the main character, Steve Coogan, seeks out the wisdom of an elderly friend. His friend is playing bridge in the Patio Room, and Coogan comes in and discusses a difficult case with his bridge-playing elder.  According to IMDB, the show is about a former cop who’s now a cunning but charming low-rent lawyer uses his street smarts to work the system for his clients while battling his own demons and wooing his ex-wife. “This is pretty exciting for all…

Oak Park Photography Club Holds Exhibit

An exhibit of work from photographers in the Oak Park Photography Club will be on display at the Oak Park Arms on Dec. 9.

Attendees of an art opening presenting the work of local photographers can see the world through a different lens this weekend. The event, put on by the Oak Park Photography Club, will be on display on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave., from 2-5 p.m. The exhibit will feature both color and black and white photography by local shutterbugs and will also be for sale. The exhibit will be up for a week and the public is welcome to peak inside. Want to join? 'The Mystery & Moments of Vivian Maier' Opens Today in Oak Park

Photographer Vivian Maier's work found critical acclaim following the discovery of her work in 2009, just before her death.

The Oak Park Arms hosts a special presentation that is open to the public starting today of the work of former Oak Park resident and photographer Vivian Maier. The Mystery & Moments of Vivian Maier opens at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 with several short films made with the use of Maier's photographs and 8mm footage. Maier was born in New York City in 1926 and grew up in France. She came to Chicago in the 1950s, where she would work as a nanny for 40 years. As she walked the streets of the city during that time, she photographed the people and places she came across, eventually building an archive of more than 100,000 negatives, mostly of the city and the people in it. Local Veteran's Day Celebrations

A look at events saluting Oak Park and River Forest Armed Forces veterans.

Here's to you, veterans. Thank you. Tribute at the Oak Park Arms 11 a.m. Friday at The Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave., will present musician Roger Kotecki, who will perform a musical tribute "marking the sesquicentennial anniversary of the start of the American Civil War." Free and open to the public. More here. Ceremony at Scoville Park 11 a.m. Friday at Scoville Park. Local dignitaries will speak near the park's Peace Triumphant statue, and the "History Singers" will perform. After the ceremony, the Park District of Oak Park will host a ceremony at the Ernest Hemingway Museum. Celebration at Longfellow Center 12:30 p.m. Friday at Longfellow Center. A great e-mail arrived in our inbox from the folks over at the Oak Park Arms:  The Oak Park Arms hosted the annual Senior Olympics on Saturday, Sept. 24, featuring a keynote address by Monroe Saffold, Mr. America 1990, and fitness games for seniors. Games included: A community “Walk & Roll” (roll because of walkers and wheelchairs), ring toss, bean bag toss, horseshoes, egg walk, parachute throw and creative relay races.
