Tavi Gevinson Talks Feminism in PBS Documentary Series

The Oak Park native shares the screen with some very famous company in "Makers," which debuts Tuesday night.

The New York Times dubbed her the “Oracle of Girl World.” Now Tavi Gevinson is set to debut as one of PBS and AOL’s Makers.  Oak Park’s Gevinson, 16, joins the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem and Hillary Clinton in the documentary series that premieres at 8 p.m. Tuesday. More than 175 women are featured—women, a trailer for the series states, who fight for something bigger than themselves. Through her online magazine Rookie, Gevinson has given a voice to young women growing up in a post-feminist world who are confronting the fact that expectations still aren’t exactly the same for boys and girls. Dominican University Offers Scholarly Backdrop for PBS Documentary

River Forest campus offers public television film crew a scenic setting.

Why, doesn't this sound fun. Peter Sagal, Oak Parker and beloved host of National Public Radio's Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! is hosting a forthcoming PBS series titled The Constitution, which will bring Sagal across the country to talk about, you guessed it, the Constitution of the United States. One of those stops brought the film crew to the picturesque confines of Dominican University, where they shot scenes at the school's Cloister Walk and inside the Noonan Reading Room. "The campus has that academic feel to it," Sagal told a school spokesman."I was familiar with Dominican, and I'm happy that it worked out for us to come here."
