8A Football: Waubonsie Downs OPRF in Heated Battle

Waubonsie Valley 28, Oak Park-River Forest 7. 234 rushing yards by Austin Guido set the tone for the Warriors in one-sided, but heated, victory over the Huskies.

Breaking It Down: It didn’t take long for Waubonsie Valley to establish its attack pattern. On the second play from scrimmage, RB Austin Guido scored on a 41-yard run to put the Warriors up 7-0.  This was a consistent theme for the Warriors: Keep the ball on the ground and shove it down the Huskies’ throat. The Huskies, led by quarterback Lloyd Yates were unable to find a consistent response. Apart from some decent plays here and there, they had a very hard time staying on the field for any real length of time.  The Warriors stuck to their guns and most of their plays were either run by Guido or quarterback Dylan Warden. It's been one exciting season for Huskie fans! Last week's rematch against Hinsdale Central showed once again, that even when the team is down, they aren't out. You can catch the Huskies this weekend live on Patch if you can't make the game. Just click play on our player above starting at 1 p.m. as Oak Park River Forest takes on Waubonsie Valley this Saturday, Nov. 3. While things are never certain in high school football, one thing can be confidently said about the team this season—it's going to be a good game.

Football Playoffs: OPRF to Face Hinsdale in First Playoff Match

The two teams met earlier this month, when the Huskies came from behind to beat the Red Devils in overtime.

Three weeks after Oak Park-River Forest came back from 21 points down to beat Hinsdale Central in overtime, the Huskies will get an opportunity for a repeat performance. According to the IHSA football playoff brackets released over the weekend, Hinsdale Central will host OPRF this weekend in the first round of the 8A tournament. The particular day and time for the game has not yet been set. The Huskies are 6-3. A three-game win streak this fall propelled OPRF, who ran off wins against Lyons Township, Hinsdale Central and Morton from Sept. 28 to Oct. 12. READ: OPRF Does It Again!
