Oak Park police reports, Feb. 8 to Feb. 11.
MONDAY, FEB. 11 A second floor window on the northwest side of Whittier Elementary School, 715 N. Harvey Ave., was broken with a rock. Estimated damage was $100. The incident took place sometime between Feb. 8 and Feb. 11. The ignition was pulled and the steering column peeled on a 2000 Dodge Caravan parked in the rear lot of a building in the 200 block of South Maple Avenue. A pry tool was used to force open the front driver’s side window. Estimated damage was $1,800. SUNDAY, FEB. 10 Charles Davis, 19, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing identification and disorderly conduct after a disturbance in the 500 block of River Oaks Avenue, police said. SATURDAY, FEB. 9 Wayne Kuhn, 23, of Rolling Meadows was charged with driving under the influence, battery and resisting a police officer following an incident in the west parking lot at Dominican University, police said. Around 2:20 a.m., campus security told police that a 2001 Honda Accord had been sliding around the lot, plowing into a snow bank. The driver, later identified as Kuhn, then backed up and nearly crashed into a River Forest squad car that had arrived on the scene. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 6 A River Forest resident reported that they were the victim of a battery in the 300 block of Lake Street by an Oak Park juvenile. The juvenile was picked up in the 200 block of Scoville and taken to the station. They were later released to a parent. Michael J. River Forest police announced they nabbed the man responsible for a series of copper thefts around the village in recent weeks. River Forest police made the decision to end a high speed chase with the driver of a stolen vehicle around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 2. An officer on patrol in the 400 block of Lathrop on Saturday night was alerted when their cruiser's automated license plate reader alerted the officer of a car reported stolen in Melrose Park Jan. 25. THURSDAY, JAN. 31 Alex L. Carraminana, 21, of the 900 block of Wenonah, was arrested and charged with assault. Carraminana was issued a March court date and released after posting bond. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 30 A juvenile Oak Park resident reported a theft to police that occurred in the 200 block of north Scoville between 3-5 p.m. Stolen was an Apple iPhone from a locker for an estimated loss of $600. An Oak Park juvenile reported the theft of their bike in the 200 block of north Scoville between 4:45-7:50 p.m. Stolen was a red, white and blue Fuji bike, a bike helmet and a bike lock for an estimated loss of $650. A Chicago juvenile was identified as the offender who pushed a victim during an altercation in the 6500 block of North Avenue around 1:18 p.m. The juvenile was taken to the police station and later released to a guardian. Steven L. Chew, 26, of the 4800 block of west Fulton in Chicago, was charged with aggravated arson after turning himself into police, according to LaDon Reynolds at the Oak Park Police Department. Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Taylor around 3:17 a.m. Jan. 19 to investigate a report of a domestic fight in an apartment. The victim told police officers that Chew had come over to her home and began pounding on an apartment window. When she let him into the apartment, the two got into a verbal argument and she asked him to leave. When Chew refused, the victim told him she was going to call police. Police report that with the arrest of two Juveniles from Chicago, they can clear nearly 20 open burglary cases in Oak Park.
Oak Park police reported Wednesday the arrest of two 16-year-olds from Chicago—twins—that could clear as many as 20 open burglary cases in Oak Park. One of the two teens was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary, and was transported to a juvenile detention center. The other was charged with one count of attempted burglary, and later released to parents. Although the two have not been charged with between 17-20 total burglaries that police believe they can connect them to, Investigations Commander LaDon Reynolds told Patch that their arrest will clear numerous open burglary cases that span from last summer.
