WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3 Lew Hawekotte, 24, of the 6300 block of Diversey in Chicago, was charged with retail theft after police were called to Dominicks, 7501 W. North Ave. in River Forest. Police said he stole two bottles of Tide laundry detergent and left in a silver Volkswagen. Hawekotte later turned himself into police. He was released after posting bond. Brussie Bolar, 19, of the 500 block of N. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park, was charged with theft and resisting arrest after police were called to Mobil gas station, 754 N. Harlem Ave. Police said Bolar fled from the store after stealing $15 in merchandise, and led police on a brief foot chase and struggle. FRIDAY, SEP. 7 A Concordia University student reported at 3:42 p.m. that someone entered her locked locker at the Koenecke Community Center (7400 Augusta) and took a 15-inch HP laptop and the associated charger. Police said that a Lojack device in the computer had been activated that will allow it to be traced. Kelvin D. Smith, 20, of 3231 W. 83rd St., Chicago, was arrested at 2:03 p.m. on the 7300 block of Lake and charged with felony burglary. Police said that Smith was located after a search for a "suspicious man" looking around an alley riding a purple Magna Glacier Point bike with a flat rear tire. Police link four more incidents to same group that has been damaging property in one area of town since mid-June.
Four more instances of egging homes and cars have been linked to a group that has been damaging property in River Forest for the last few weeks, police said Monday. The incidents, believed to be the work of teenagers, all took place July 18 in the 1300 block of Monroe Avenue, in an area that has seen a lot of the instances since July 4. Earlier: Vandalism on the Rise in River Forest. Here's the latest: The incidents began as innocent pranks June 14 when people found their lawn furniture stacked up in their yards and hoses were tangled.
