Marijuana Stashed in Fake Hebrew-English Dictionary Found in Concordia Dorm

A 17-year-old from Dolton was arrested on two felony drug-related charges.

A 17-year-old student from Dolton was charged with two drug-related felonies Feb. 6 after 16 marijuana-filled baggies were found in a lock box disguised as a Hebrew-English dictionary in his Concordia University dorm room, River Forest police said. Campus security received a tip that a student had cannabis and paraphernalia in his room at David Jonathon Hall and smelled marijuana when they opened the door of the suspect's room, River Forest Dep. Chief James O'Shea said. Lying open on the desk was an open lock box, disguised as the dictionary, containing 16.3 grams of marijuana in 18 separate baggies, O’Shea said. SUNDAY, FEB. 10 Charles Davis, 19, of Chicago, was charged with obstructing identification and disorderly conduct after a disturbance in the 500 block of River Oaks Avenue, police said.  SATURDAY, FEB. 9 Wayne Kuhn, 23, of Rolling Meadows was charged with driving under the influence, battery and resisting a police officer following an incident in the west parking lot at Dominican University, police said. Around 2:20 a.m., campus security told police that a 2001 Honda Accord had been sliding around the lot, plowing into a snow bank. The driver, later identified as Kuhn, then backed up and nearly crashed into a River Forest squad car that had arrived on the scene. Red Light Cameras Soon Will Be Going Live in River Forest

Cameras, posted at Harlem and Lake and Harlem and North, catch lead foots going through red lights and rolling turns.

Lights, camera, ticket. Cameras identifying drivers who do not stop at stop lights at two of River Forest's busiest intersections will be going live in a matter of weeks. Trustees approved red-light cameras in October 2011, but were required to get approval from the state, because they will be installed on Illinois routes. The cameras have been posted at the intersections of Harlem and North avenues and Harlem and Lake Street for nearly a month. When they officially go live and begin to record infractions, locations will be posted on the River Forest website, said Michael Braiman, River Forest's assistant village manager. The devices will take a picture of the license plate of the car getting the citation and a video of the infraction. …

Step Up in Enforcement of DUI, Seat Belt Laws on Area Streets during Holiday

Forest Park, Oak Park and River Forest to take part in statewide driving safety program.

Area police will be cracking down on DUIs and seat belt violations through New Year’s Eve to make it safer to drive on village streets. Enforcement, designed to curb traffic accidents and fatalities, is part of the state's Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket programs. Intensified enforcement effort will focus on the nighttime hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., when a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), midnight to 3 a.m. is the deadliest time on Illinois roadways. River Forest police reports Dec. 21 -24.

MONDAY, DEC. 24 Fernando Guardado, 54, of Berwyn was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to property and resisting a police officer after he refused to leave McDonald's, 624 Harlem Ave., and resisted efforts to take him into custody, police said. Routine checks also revealed that Guardado was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Cook County for driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Police Arrest Two Suspected of Stealing Packages, Another for Obstructing Police

River Forest police arrested two men suspected of stealing packages from residents in River Forest.

A River Forest police officer arrested two men on Nov. 29 who were later charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing packages from residents in River Forest. An officer on patrol in an unmarked car in the 1000 block of Franklin at about 3:21 a.m. reported seeing a car with two occupants inside that was driving slowly and repeatedly stopping in the road. The officer followed the car until it stopped in the 800 block of Keystone, turned off its lights and then drove into the driveway of a home. When the car re-emerged a short time later, the officer followed the car to Chicago Avenue and the Des Plaines River where one of the passengers threw a box out of the car window. Man Spotted Urinating in Public Arrested for Reckless Driving: River Forest Police Blotter

River Forest police reports, Oct. 28 - Nov. 3.

SATURDAY, NOV. 3 Fabian Pita-Alcaide, 29, of Chicago was charged wtih driving under the influence of alcohol and other offenses after he was stopped in the 1700 block of Harlem Avenue for driving erratically, police said. An officer on patrol in the 1100 block of Harlem began following a car that continually weaved over the double yellow line. After stopping the driver, an officer saw three open cans of beer in the car. Pita-Alcaide failed a field sobriety test; a breathaylzer test indicated his blood alcohol concentration was .174, police said. Pita-Alcaide also was charged with driving with a blood alcohol concentration in excess of .08, driving without a valid driver’s license, illegal transportation of open alcohol and improper lane …

Man Charged With Theft From Concordia University Weight Room

Robert Gardner, 19, is charged with stealing a Concordia student's backpack from a university weight room.

River Forest police announced today that they arrested and charged Robert Gardner, 19, of the 5400 block of west Congress Parkway in Chicago, for stealing a Concordia University student's backpack from a university weight room. The theft was reported to River Forest police at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The student told police that the previous evening, he had left his track and field backpack in the university weight room and when he returned, the bag was missing. Police said that based on their initial investigation, and an examination of available evidence, they were able to identify Gardner as the one responsible for the theft. Tonight: Forum to Focus on New Rules Affecting Youth

New ordinances on alcohol, drugs and results of youth survey to be on the table.

New Oak Park and River Forest ordinances that could have an impact on teen alcohol and drug use will be the focus of a forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the 19th Century Club in Oak Park. The event, sponsored by law enforcement and youth agencies, also will present results of the 2012 Illinois Youth Survey taken by middle school and high school students in Oak Park and River Forest. The 19th Century Club is at 178 Forest Ave. The event is free and open to the public. This effort is important, says one forum organizer, because it will be invaluable information for parents - and their children - to have. Woman Wanted on Violation of Order of Protection and More Open Warrants

There are dozens of warrants out for the arrest of accused criminals in Forest Park, Oak Park and River Forest. Patch highlights a few of them today.

Forest Park Scott R. Kinsey, 55, is wanted on a charge of disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $5,000. This warrant dates back to April 2007. His last known address was on the 7500 block of Jackson Boulevard in Forest Park. Francisco Leyva, 48, is wanted on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. There was no bond. This warrant dates back to December of 2009. His last known address was on the 3000 block of Calwagner Avenue in Franklin Park. Lazaro Licona, 42, is wanted on a charge of driving on a suspended, revoked driver's license. Bail was set at $50,000. This warrant dates back to September 2005.
