Police Issue 50 Citations in Holiday Driving Crackdown

Drivers cited for DUI, not wearing seat belts and other traffic offenses.

Oak Park police were on the hunt and cracking down on drivers who neglected to wear their seat belt or who chose to drive intoxicated during the holiday season. Police issued 50 citations for traffic offenses, including 27 citations for drivers who didn't buckle up, according to numbers released by the department. In addition to catching unbelted drivers, police also reported making five significant arrests, including one motorist who was charged with illegal transportation of alcohol. Of the 27 citations issued for failing to wear a seat belt, police reported that 15 of those were issued during nighttime hours. Cops Begin Seat Belt, Impaired Driving Crackdown for Thanksgiving on Friday

Cops will be stepping up enforcement of seat belt and impaired driving laws starting Nov. 16 and continuing through Thanksgiving weekend.

Click it or ticket. Driver sober or get pulled over. These are the mantra of Illinois police starting on Friday, Nov. 16 and continuing through Thanksgiving weekend. Police in Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park will be stepping up enforcement of seat belt laws and watching for signs of impaired and drunk driving. Since cops are always on the look out for drunk drivers, if you're a responsible driver (and drinker), the seat belt laws are more likely what will get you nabbed in the next week. “Fastening a seat belt takes only a second or two, and costs you nothing.
