This weekend, the menu at Shanahan's Creole Restaurant and Irish Bar gets hoppy.
Shanahan's Creole Restaurant and Irish Bar in Forest Park is cooking with beer this weekend—quite literally. The weekend's beer-centric menu features a range of hearty items designed to tempt you taste buds and make your winter weary soul happy. "It's January, so we're focusing on hearty dishes," said Randy Toledano, manager at Shanahan's. "We've got some interesting beers in this month." In addition to grabbing one of a variety of microbrews, Shanahan's is adding beer to pretty much all of it's weekend Beerfest menu options. For example, the cooks are serving up Corona beer battered shrimp, brown ale brined chicken wings with a Hacker Pschorr honey mustard sauce and Hacker Pschorr marinated grilled bratwurst. They're also mixing in some …

Starting today, diners will notice the menu has been taken over by King Crab, Snow Crab and Soft Shell Crab—and can be ordered just about any way you like it through Sunday, Dec. 16. The King and Snow crab specials are the highlight of the weekend's menu, Shanahan's manager said. Served with butter sauce and a pair of crackers, it's a dish you can go to town on. The specials are $46 for the King Crab and $17 for the Snow Crab. Other dishes of note on the menu during Crabfest include New England crab rolls for $10; a soft shell crab po-boy for $14; the soft shell crab platter (lightly fried and served with French fries and slaw) for $17; and of course, crab cakes for $8. …

Ever eaten gator? It's actually quite delicious. This is the weekend to give it a try, as Shanahan's Creole Restaurant and Irish Bar, 7353 Madison St. in Forest Park hosts their Shrimp and Gator Fest starting tonight and running through the weekend. You can get a real taste of the bayou with dishes like alligator etouffee, alligator rolls and gumbo. For those that don't feel up to feasting on an animal that could feast on you, there are plenty of shrimp-centric dishes on the menu as well, including a shrimp burger and the classic shrimp po-boy sandwich. I caught up with Shanahan's bartender and server Kate Scotty about three hours after she'd had her first taste of gator meat. "It's really good," Scotty said of the experience. "It has a …
