Technology Upgrades Boost District 97 Classrooms

With a new laptop for every teacher and more projectors, the traditional methods are evolving in Oak Park District 97 schools.

Technology is ubiquitous in Colin Reynolds' fourth grade classroom at Horace Mann Elementary School. As he walked through a discussion of a book his students were reading this week, Reynolds used his SMART Board to project his interactive lesson plan on his laptop, conducted a Google image search for related images to a topic in the story and allowed a student look up a vocabulary definition on a separate computer as the class talked. The teacher also maintains a website called Mr. Reynold's Learning Blog in which he and students detail the class activities on a regular basis.  "There's an obligation for educators to teach technology use and model it for the students," said Reynolds.
