UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

With more than 71,000 votes cast, see who took this week's honor as Athlete of the Week.

More than 71,000 votes were cast in last week's contest and Niles West's Ryan Miller was voted as the Athlete of the Week. Miller won the 100 butterfly at the Buffalo Grove Invitational, finishing in 54.63 seconds. Miller also took third in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes 6.85 seconds). The Niles West senior received 39,586 votes, or 55 percent. HONORABLE MENTION Zach Cole, senior, boys bowling, Deerfield –Cole took third place at the sectional championships with a 1332 in his six-game series. The senior led Deerfield to a third-place team finish and qualified as an individual for the state championship. The nominees for Athlete of the Week: New Trier's Maggie Lyon, Deerfield's Zach Cole, Niles West's Ryan Miller, Niles North's Billy Voitik and Highland Park's Jake Zuckerman.

More than 300 votes were cast last week and Glenbrook South's Molly McDonagh claimed the title of Athlete of the Week. The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 16 - Jan. 22: Zach Cole, senior, boys bowling, Deerfield – Cole took third place at the sectional championships with a 1332 in his six-game series. The senior led Deerfield to a third-place team finish and qualified as an individual for the state championship. Your Turn: Vote for Patch Athlete of the Week

Vote for one of these nominees as the Athlete of the Week: Niles North's Mychael Henley, Deerfield's Alex Sacks, New Trier's Jack Mangan, Glenbrook South's Justin Busiel, Glenbrook North's Adam Chick.

More than 1,500 votes were cast in last week's contest and Maine South's Nina Duric was proclaimed the winner. The following nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 2 - Jan. 8, are: Mychael Henley, senior, basketball guard, Niles North – Henley scored 23 points and collected five rebounds in the Vikings’ 67-52 win over Uplift last week. The senior guard had missed much of the early season with a wrist injury. Alex Sacks, senior, basketball, Deerfield – Sacks scored a game-high 19 points in the Warriors’ 67-52 non-conference victory over Wheeling. UPDATE: See Who Won Patch's Athlete of the Week

With more than 1,500 votes cast, find out who won this week's Patch Athlete of the Week.

More than 1,500 votes were cast in last week's contest and Maine South's Nina Duric was proclaimed the winner.  Duric led the Hawks’ balanced scoring attack with 14 points and nine rebounds in Maine South’s 55-43 win over Champaign Centennial to claim the State Farm Holiday Classic title. This marks the first time Maine South has won the championship in school history. The Maine South basketball star received more than 700 votes, or about 47 percent. Honorable Mention: Malachi Nix, junior, basketball guard, Niles North – Nix had 13 points in the first quarter and 23 for the game in Niles North’s 62-48 win over Vernon Hills in the Wheeling Hardwood Classic consolation game. The Vikings are now 8-5 on the season as they head into CSL North …

Another hotly contested poll. See who came out on top and won Athlete of the Week!

Almost 600 votes were cast and in the end Deerfield's Michael Alfieri claimed this week’s Athlete of the Week title.  Alfieri was one of the main reasons Deerfield handed CSL North rival Glenbrook North its first loss of the season. The standout sophomore scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assist in the Warriors’ 48-42 victory.  Alfieri captured 264 votes, or 44 percent. The contest literally came down to the wire, with Alfieri and Glenbrook North's Mark Johnson tied with the same amount of votes just hours before Sunday's voting deadline (midnight). Officially our closest contest yet. See who came out on top and won Athlete of the Week!

More than 900 votes were cast, but in the end Evanston’s Josh Irving landed this week’s Athlete of the Week. Irving received 330 votes, or 36 percent. Irving scored a game-high 20 points in Evanston’s 77-24 win against Maine East on Nov. 29. The 5-foot-10 senior drained three three-pointers as the Wildkits shot 10-for-21 from beyond the arc. The win continued Evanston’s undefeated start to the season as the Wildkits improved to 6-0.   This week’s contest was also our closest one yet, with Skokie’s Mariyah Henley coming in second place, capturing 284 votes or 31 percent. This week's Patch Portrait Series also features Deerfield's recycling dog wonder. Adam Warda acquired a love for baseball somewhat by chance.  At 8 years old, after being invited to play in a little league game by a neighborhood friend Warda discovered he had a passion for the game. “His dad saw me and he gave me a jersey. I ended up playing, I liked it, and I never stopped playing ever since,” explained the shortstop. Kids always dream big, but it was in high school that Warda came to realized he might have a real future in the sport. 'Hungry' Huskies have high hopes for season in taking on Glenbard North.

"Stay hungry." It's a slogan pressed on T-shirts promoting team unity and planted in the minds of every player and coach following a day of rigorous practice. More than just a battle cry, it is a way of life for an Oak Park-River Forest Huskies team looking to finish what it started last season. Or at least make some headway in the tough West Suburban Conference Silver Division. "After the [final] ballgame last year, we felt that we started something and we'd like to stay hungry, working toward a goal," said head coach Jim Nudera after the team's practice Monday.
